"The new coaster, named Top Thrill Dragster, will be more than 400 feet tall and will reach speeds of 120 mph," reported Dick Kinzel, president and chief executive officer. "It will be the first roller coaster in the world to pass the 400-foot-tall milestone and will easily be the tallest structure at Cedar Point." The new coaster will launch riders out of a starting position and accelerate quickly up to 120 mph, then climb a 420-foot hill before dropping riders 400 feet back toward the ground at an amazing 90-degree angle, again reaching speeds of up to 120 mph. "It will be the park's 16th roller coaster -- more than any other park -- and it will strengthen Cedar Point's position as the thrill ride capital of the world." Top Thrill Dragster will be built in addition to Steel Venom, the park's seventh roller coaster which was its first new coaster since 1996, and will feature the introduction of Paradise Falls, a large family water funhouse. This new attraction, located in the adjacent water park, Oceans of Fun, will include water cannons, a 1,000-gallon bucket that empties every five minutes on guests below, water slides, and much more." |
For the fifth straight year, Cedar Fair has earned the title of "Best Amusement Park In The World" for its its efforts at Cedar Point, according to an international survey. In addition, three of Cedar Point roller coasters were ranked among the top 12 steel roller coasters in the world.

"Zonga" is Six Flags Marine World's new seriously twisted supercoaster. You'll get twisted just looking at it. It features four brightly colored full-circle, full-tilt, fully-inverted loops in wild yellow, glowing green, too-hot red and passionate purple. Zonga will be ready to roll in Spring 2003.
The new ride takes its name from a Swahili word for "coil" or "loop," and Zonga will be a veritable spin cycle of head-over-heels fun.
From the top of Zonga's sky-high lift hill, the 20-passenger trains will take a screaming dive at a 70-degree angle then immediately arch backwards into two giant back-to-back steel circles. Zonga riders spend the next two minutes wheeling, whirling, rolling and careening through a colorful circumvolution of twisting track, including two more big, breath-taking round-out loops.

There's More!
Based on the DC Comics Super Hero, SUPERMAN, the World's Greatest Super Hero and a timeless America icon, SUPERMAN - ULTIMATE FLIGHT's phenomenal airborne experience will give everyone the opportunity to soar like a Super Hero and fly freely like never before.
SUPERMAN - ULTIMATE FLIGHT will be the park's fourth coaster designed by Swiss engineers Walter Bolliger and Claude Mabillard, considered by many as the industry's premier roller coaster manufacturers.
"The name SUPERMAN evokes images of freedom and breathtaking flying adventure," said Jim Wintrode, Six Flags Great America's general manager. "SUPERMAN - ULTIMATE FLIGHT combines the world's best roller coaster technology with man's desire to fly through the air, making it the most unique ride to come to this area of the country."
The adventure begins the moment passengers board the sleek and colorful, 32-seat train sitting four abreast. The unique seats of this coaster tilt riders face-first into a flying position before they leave the station, so that everyone is suspended horizontally from the track above.
The anticipation builds as passengers, secured by specially designed over-the-shoulder harnesses and lap bars, climb the 109-foot lift hill with nothing but a bird's eye view below.
With arms stretched forward and feet trailing behind, passengers on SUPERMAN - Ultimate Flight fly freely like never before. For almost three minutes, riders sail through sharp dives, high banked curves and spirals uniquely designed to enhance this flying experience.
The coaster's track is barely visible as riders are transported from a theme park attraction to the imaginative and limitless experience that comes from literally soaring through the sky, creating an experience that no one will ever forget.
SUPERMAN's remarkable flight pattern covers more than 2,798-feet, with two sleek trains soaring over virtually invisible track at speeds greater than 50 mph.
The signature feature of SUPERMAN - ULTIMATE FLIGHT comes as riders sail through the first-ever, pretzel-shaped inverted loop, climbing to the top of the large looping figure and diving into a curve which brings them amazingly close to the ground, amplifying the sensational feeling of flying.
Rounding out the flight is a surprising 360-degree in-line roll just before the train enters the station, turns average coaster enthusiasts into high-flying Super Heroes.
"The SUPERMAN - ULTIMATE FLIGHT perfectly compliments the park's vast and varied coaster collection," added Wintrode. This innovative design system and state-of-the- art technology make it a must ride for every theme park enthusiast.
Bolliger and Mabillard's other three Six Flags Great America coasters - Iron Wolf, Raging Bull and BATMAN THE RIDE - consistently rank among the park's most popular rides. For more park information, call 847-249-2133 or visit Six Flags Great America on the web at sixflags.com.

For the fortunate few, life isn’t complete without a backpacking trip through Europe. This rite of passage is believed to further the maturation process of college students, according to sociologists. Of course, others have opined that copious amounts of alcohol, sun and Amsterdam have something to do with it. Regardless of your purpose, you still have to figure out what to take.
