Bentonville - Convention & Visitors Bureau Berryville - Official Web Site Bigelow AR was the first town in the state to have a concrete foundation for its sawmill. In the early 1900s people would bring their families from miles around to make sure the "quiet" sawmill was really working, and not just sitting there idling. That may be hard for us to imagine, but my parents told me repeatedly how the ground would shake and quiver from the palpitating thrusts of an engine ten and twenty miles away. Black Oak Arkansas. - Mayor Billy Clay is an open, friendly man with a great love for this
area. I was lucky enough to meet him way back when and a better booster
for Brinkley you will not find. The only trouble with Brinkley is if you
want lodgings during goose season, you'd better call WAY ahead to make
reservations. I have seen geese (in that region) so thick I couldn't drop
a rock anywhere in 80 acres and not hit one. I've seen ducks surge up
thick enough to darken the sky. |

and called it "The Calico Rocks" because it resembled the calico

Jacksonport is located in Jackson County just a little south of Newport between Auvergne and Elgin along Highway 17 on the banks of the White River. Jacksonville
Arkansas, near the crowd, but not in it. A spectacular town with almost
30,000 population, great schools, and a good industrial base with room
to grow. It is a little hard to know where you are going, until you realize
that the streets go in a circle here. Some of the concrete sidewalks I helped to

in place. My favorite chunk of Jacksonville is along Loop Road. The Hunan

"One of Arkansas' Most Scenic Destinations" What kind of people live in Mount Ida? Well, as I was coming down the road at about 60 MPH to where 270 and 27 junction my left front tire blew to shreds. I brought the car to a stop right across from the Phillips 66 station by the name of Top Spot. I looked at what was left of the tire and shuddered with gratitude that I was still alive. Then I opened the trunk and got the jack out. By the time I had figured out where the jack went under the car Mike White had crossed the road. "There's no need of you getting your clothes dirty," he said. "I'll change it for you, free of charge." Mike wouldn't even think of taking a tip when he was done. Mike White and Rafe Seiler own Top Spot, but as of that April day the station was not open yet. Mike didn't expect any stock in for another day or two. "But when we are open, we'll have tires, a mechanic on duty, oil, fuel, and good customer service." I'll personally vouch for the warmth of the customer service. Second, and here is the rub, the lessons invariably are a "So now you tell me!" kind of thing. J. T. Hale describes heritage this way: "Heritage is where you come from. Bluff -- You keep thinking Pine Bluff is a little town,
but the more
you drive the more of it you see, and more,
and more. It is all spread
out, nice and clean. The people
there are the same way. Pine Bluff sits
on The River, and
is a major intermodal shipping point. It is also a center
for
many state government agencies. Their little convention
center can
host a party of 10,000 -- or make 10 big people
feel right at home. The
Pine Bluff flea market brings visitors
and vendors in from all over the
state. I picked up hospital
scrubs for $2 each, melons for $1 each, and
a bunch of other
goodies.
