Hatfield

Hatfield is a small farming community on Highway 71 between Mena and DeQueen Arkansas.  The largest employer there is Hatfield Lumberyard.  In tune with community heritage it gives firewood to people in this region from as far off as Gillam.

You may remember that in the Bible the poor were provided for by letting them glean behind the reapers.  Ruth 2: 15 "And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not:
16 And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.
17 So she gleaned in the field until even, and beat out that she had gleaned: and it was about an ephah of barley."

And thus it is that many of the elderly and the even the widow come to Hatfield Lumber to pick up wood which can be used for keeping themselves warm during the winter.

So prosperous has the lumberyard become that even after all the scraps wanted by local people hath been taken away there are loads of scrap hauled by semi trucks to distant points like Dallas and Little Rock.

The Assembly of God has an attendance of right at 200 every Sunday.  The building behind it functions as a youth center and activity center for its members.  The young dedicated pastor is doing a considerable portion of the construction work himself.    It is men like this who are making a difference, and they are making the RIGHT difference.

The busiest intersection in town still doesn't need a traffic light to direct traffic, but sometimes you wish for one.

Glinting in the morning sun Hatfield rises in glory to meet the day.

Right on the outskirts of town good hay and beauty abound.

The area is prosperous for many citizens nearby.
The Maye Ranch, for example,
is clean, broad and very blessed.
