There is the (unfortunately confirmed) story of one sportsman from a neighboring state slipping into Oklahoma to take a prize-sized bear and sneaking it back into his own state to win a Sportsman of the Year's Award. Hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, paddling, Oklahoma is very outdoor centered. These links below are the best I have found to tell you more about the best places to go and what to look for when you get there. Snowhawk's Gateway to Oklahoma page is one of the longest, most complete, and finest directory of outdoors links available. The Oklahoma Chapter of the Sierra Club includes the entire state of Oklahoma. From fighting the spread of Confined Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) in the panhandle to building trails in the Ouachita National Forest in Southeastern Oklahoma to working to halt urban sprawl in both Tulsa and Oklahoma City, the Oklahoma Chapter has a proud heritage of action campaigns during its 24 years in Oklahoma. Places to Ride lists off-road vehicle riding areas and motocross tracks in and around Oklahoma. "We also have some great twisties and scenic highways in the Sooner State listed." Explore the challenging, scenic trails in the Kiamichi Mountains near Clayton, OK with Bob Norton. The photos are great, the writing is better. Here's a sample: "Then in an AWESOME show of power from his LT-11 powered CJ-7, proceeded to snatch the tree from across the trail and then tow the tree perhaps a hundred yards uphill and out of the way! Oklahoma Lakes and Camping provides an in-depth look at the state's lake and camping areas. Great Plains Country loads slowly but has some good links to this area. Oklahoma Backcountry is more than a collection of hunting and fishing stories, it is about the experience of being outdoors. Memories are yet to be discovered there stirred by natures blend of sky and sun, earth and water, and there are memories already made, rekindled by stories from the great outdoors.
