America West Announces New Service Between Eugene, Ore., And Its Las Vegas Hub

America West Airlines (NYSE: AWA), the nation's largest low-fare, full-service
airline, announced today that it will initiate new service between Eugene,
Ore., and its Las Vegas hub on March 1, 2003.  The daily nonstop roundtrip
service will be provided by America West Express, operated by Mesa Airlines,
utilizing the 50-seat Canadair Regional Jet.  From Las Vegas, Eugene customers
can connect to 24 destinations across the United States and Mexico.  America
West will also retime one of its three existing flights from Eugene to Phoenix
enabling customers to connect to 70 destinations.
"Customers in the Eugene area can now enjoy nonstop service to one of the
most popular destinations in the country and benefit from the convenience of
connecting to many other America West destinations," said Dion Flannery, vice
president, scheduling and route planning.  "With our business-friendly fares
and customer-friendly ticketing policies travelers can be confident they'll
get an outstanding value when they choose to travel with America West."
America West's business fares are 40 to 70 percent below most other major
carriers and do not require a Saturday night stay.  Additionally, the airline
offers flexible ticketing policies that allow unused tickets to retain their
value for a year and allow customers to fly standby for free on the same day
as their originally scheduled flight.
In 1999, America West and Eugene pioneered the "Travel Bank" program,
where businesses in Eugene agreed to fly a certain portion of their travel
with America West in order to help ensure the success of the new service.
"Since then, travelers in Eugene have been asking us for this service to Las
Vegas and we've told them that when the flights to Phoenix were well
established and successful, we would evaluate additional service.  Thus, these
new flights to Las Vegas are a direct result of customer support of America
West in Eugene," said Flannery.
