Dutch is the mother tongue of over 21 million people: including almost all of the inhabitants of The Netherlands, and about half of the people living in Belgium (those living in Flanders or "Vlaanderen") who speak the Dutch language.
This short course concentrates on written, rather than spoken Dutch. Yes. Technically, it is quite possible to present sound clips or even video over the Internet. However, we feel it is best to reduce the need for large size files as much as possible, as only a relatively small percentage of all Internet users have broadband access at the present time.
By learning to read written Dutch you can rely on guidebooks, pamphlets and brochures in many instances to get you through embarrassing emergencies. Another thing to consider, once you acquire skills in pronouncing the words, all that you learn in written Dutch will fall into place for you.
Clicking on any part of the menu to the left will open up a new window for your use. When you finish, simply close that window and you will be returned here for the next lesson. You can also bookmark your spot with the tools supplied and learn Dutch entirely from the author's site.
